Make Time To Talk
Welcome to the “Make Time to talk” podcast.
I’m hoping to bring some light into the world during 2023 so I’ve created this podcast to try and inspire as many people as possible who are struggling to speak up and seek the help they need.
The guests coming on are talking about their personal struggles and journeys in life. This has proven to be a massive help for my own mental health, I thought I knew a lot about the subject but the more I speak to people, the more I learn.
Topics are wide-ranging and I’m trying to cover as much as I can across the board for mental health. If you’ve got a story and journey to share, then we want to hear it. This is a collective effort and I need your help to start to encourage this conversation.
I hope you enjoy the content from this podcast and don’t forget to make time to talk.

Jemima Hughes - Domestic Abuse, Dissociation and Poetry - 🆘
In this podcast episode, Jemima courageously shares her journey through an abusive relationship, discussing how it left lasting scars over nine years. Growing up in the sports world since age 9, she found herself entangled in a situation at 16 marked by manipulation, gaslighting, and control. The episode covers the isolation she felt, her attempts to seek justice through the court system, and the challenges she faced in coping with trauma.
Jemima reflects on the importance of finding one's voice and standing up for what is right, acknowledging instances of cowardice and a shift in perspective toward not making excuses for others' behaviour. The conversation extends to her exploration of different types of therapy and the transformative impact it had on her life, emphasising the nuances of the therapeutic process.
She shares insights into living with dissociation, a coping mechanism developed by the brain in response to trauma, particularly its impact on relationships. Jemima discusses her approach to relationships, emphasising full disclosure and expressing gratitude for her supportive partner.
The episode concludes with Jemima shedding light on the signs of being in a controlling relationship, emphasising the importance of education and awareness. She advocates for comprehensive education within the school system, suggesting workshops on consent, communication, and recognising warning signs.
Throughout the episode, Jemima's openness and vulnerability create a space for listeners to reflect on their own experiences and gain insights into the complexities of trauma, healing, and the journey to reclaiming one's voice. Tune in for a raw and empowering discussion.
